So,
My Mi MIX came with a vendor ROM pre-installed. Here's what I've tried to remove it;
- Fastboot into EDL mode (fastboot oem edl) through 'Minimal ADB and Fastboot' cmd; it kicks an error as the bootloader is not unlocked.
- Enter EDL through Key Combination (https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/advanced/edl); doesn't work.
- Flash ROM though MiFlash; I get the following error - error:FAILED (remote: Critical partition flashing is not allowed); related to bootloader being locked (as far as I can tell?),
- Enter download mode [Vol UP+PWR]; nothing happens, phone just boots normally.
- Updater app is missing from the device. - Edit: Nevermind, it does exist on the device. That said, it is my understanding that I can't go from Vendor -> Official ROM this way.
- 'Settings ---> Additional settings ---> Developer option and bind your approved Mi account under Mi Unlock Status'; this option is not present on my vendor rom. 6.1 I've applied for the bootloader unlock, but until I can resolve the above, I don't think it'll matter regardless, as I'm not able to link my account?
- Mi PC Suite doesn't detect the device when I connect it via USB, so I can't update through there; same issue as 5 though.
What can I do next?
I'd really like to use my device, but I'm not going to touch it with the vendor ROM installed.
